Engine bay revamp and new clutch

Because of tired clutch and massive oil leaks, I decided it was time for some work...
So engine down and doka out on stands:

I hand sanded all engine metal... lot of rust!
Can you smell it?

I bought a LUK clutch kit from Dei Kafer Service

Original distributor up again with new wires:

Here is the final look after some hours. I also decided to put an EMPI pulley because the previous caused wrong advance readings. I mantained the Bosch blue coil and painted the exhaust white. I needed a new inlet manifold and some work inside the 30 Solex carburetor.

Since the engine was down, it was time to get rid of some rust inside the engine bay...

After a lot of hand sandblasting and a coat of antirust:

Then a coat of Light Grey paint:

Looks better uh?

Time for the engine to go up again, after some testing sessions

Body work...

While waiting to go on with the registration of this vehicle in Italy (it seems as difficult as a multiple birth), I went on with the body work, sanding and putting filler in the weldings and the critical areas. It's my first time I do this things by myself, and the job is not finished yet. I hope to do it right...

I bought a bench on Ebay from an '86 doka for 69 euros including shipping (aus Deutschland). A temporary cheap way to have a seat here in the back. Not so difficult to adapt. Yeah. Thanks Ebay!



VW made the lower part of the windows slanted towards inside, so water stays here all the time! And rust become very hungry of metal. See here after some sanding. Lot of work to get rid of it...

Pop outs sanding and re-threading...

Waiting for the seals to arrive, I removed all the paint and rust from my pop out frames.

I also redid the thread to get rid of the rusty VW mini-screws and use new stainless steel screws.
